First Holy Communion

Our parish community prepares for the celebration of the first Eucharist through a programme called Do This in Memory of Me. Put together by parents and cathechists, it started in Ireland in 2004. Coming from a deeply felt need to show that First Holy Communion is not about one day only, it tries to show that the main preparation for the sacrament should not take place in the school, but firstly in the family and then in the parish family. Do This in Memory of Me is for those who live and/or worship in the parish of Frankfield/Grange.

Do This in Memory of Me is a voluntary programme where, once a month at the 6.30pm Saturday night vigil Mass during the months of October to May, we all gather together, the boys and girls from our parish who are preparing to celebrate their First Holy Communion, their families and our parish community. We look at different ways of what it means to be ‘in communion’ with the Lord and with each other.

This year, because of Covid-19 restrictions, First Holy Communions will take place over four (4) Saturdays in September; the ceremony will have a different format.

Each child will be accompanied to the church by a maximum of ONLY two others eg. parent/guardian/family member or close friend. The Mass will begin as usual at 11am on the following dates:

Mr O’Flynn’s 2nd class will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday, 5th September.

Ms Ryan’s 2nd class on Saturday, 12th September.

Ms O’Sullivan’s 2nd class on Saturday, 19th September.

Ms. Keeshan’s 2nd class on Saturday, 26th September.

The children will be very well prepared by their teachers and will have many practices in the church before their reception of this very important and life giving sacrament.

The children made their First Confession in March 2020.

When making the sacraments the child’s baptismal certificate will be required to be handed into the school before she/he makes their First Holy Communion. The baptismal certificate can only be obtained from the parish in which the child had been baptised.

Following their First Holy Communion children need to be encouraged to accompany their parents to Mass on a regular basis to enable them to make a genuine commitment to their faith at the Sacrament of Confirmation in 6th class.

Altar Servers: Children who have received their First Holy Communion will be eligible to become altar servers. Recruitment happens in the September following their First Holy Communion when school reopens.

Baptismal certificates in this parish can only be requested and issued at the parish office.

First Fridays

On the 1st Friday of each month the Parish Clergy visit the sick and housebound in their homes and bring Holy Communion to them.  If you would like one of the priests to call to you or a family member/neighbour please contact Fr Kevin (021-4361711)
