Parish Newsletter

RECENTLY DECEASED: We remember in our prayers Katie Cantwell Anderson, late of Newton Court. We extend our sincere sympathy to her loved ones, relatives, neighbours, class mates, teachers and friends; may she rest in peace.

Bishop Fintan Gavin recently removed the last of the Covid restrictions. It is no longer required to wear a face covering while distributing Holy Communion for either priests or Ministers of the Eucharist. The faithful have a right to receive Holy Communion either on the hand or on the tongue. This will be facilitated by all priests and Ministers of the Eucharist. Covid notices and stickers in relation to social distancing and the wearing of face coverings should be removed from church seats, notice boards etc. Please note that the wearing of facemasks is optional.

TRÓCAIRE: In 1973, when choosing a name for the overseas aid agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland, the Irish bishops chose the Gaelic word for mercy or compassion – Trócaire. ‘Compassion’ is an active word that asks that we see the suffering of others and respond with solidarity and action. The first response of Trócaire is to have compassion for those we work with and to empower them to build their life with dignity and independence. The people of the island of Ireland – you – have made this possible. Your contributions this Lent will ensure that Trócaire can continue to respond with compassion and love. www.trocaire.org

COLLECTORS NEEDED: As Covid restrictions are lifted, volunteers are needed once more for collections at all weekend Masses. If you wish to volunteer please hand in your name at the Sacristy.

EASTER DUES ENVELOPES: Distributors, your bundles of envelopes with the Holy Week timetable are ready for collection from the sacristy or from the parish office during the week. Extra help is always needed to distribute the envelopes and timetables so all homes are informed of the Holy Week Ceremonies. I attended mass at 4pm on Christmas Eve and I just wanted to thank everyone, who was involved. The singing, the flowers in the church, the crib and the entire mass was absolutely beautiful. Thank you, it was magnificent. Wishing you all a happy and peaceful New Year.
    My best wishes, Valerie
