EASTER MESSAGE: I wish you and all your families all the joy of this Holy Season of Easter. A sincere thank you to all who helped in any way with the Holy Week Ceremonies. I ask that you keep our bishop-elect Fintan Gavin in your prayers as he prepares for his episcopal ordination on the 30th June, and moving to the diocese of Cork & Ross. Thank you to everyone who has returned their dues envelopes; it is very much appreciated. Fr Kevin.

MASS BOOKINGS for May & June may now be booked in the parish office. Opening hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.30am – 12.30pmConfirmation & First Holy Communion cards are available in the parish office cost €1.50.  Please note: Parish office will be closed on Easter Monday.  

CHURCH CHOIR INTERCHANGE: Next weekend Sunday 28th April 11.30am, we welcome the Cathedral of St. Mary & St. Anne’s Choir to sing at our Mass. While our choir will sing at Mass in St. Joseph’s SMA Church, Blackrock Road at 12noon. On Sunday 5th May at 11.30am we will be welcoming Helsinki Academic Male Choir KYL, Finland. This visit is part of a series of Church Choir Interchanges that have been arranged by the 65th Cork International Choral Festival, which commences on Wednesday 1st May in the City Hall and  St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral amongst other venues.

Path Through the Dark: The Story of Nano Nagle will be performed in the beautiful Goldie Chapel at Nano Nagle Place, Douglas Street on Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday, 24th  April at 2pm, Thursday, 25th and Friday 26th April at 7pm and Saturday 27th April at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are available via our Douglas Street Reception or via https://paththroughthedarknanonagle.eventbrite.ie

SCOUT ANNUAL BEREAVEMENT MASS: The Annual Mass for deceased and current members of the Scout Organisation in Cork will be held on Thursday next April 25th at the SMA church Blackrock Road, at 8pm; all present and past members, as well as their relatives and friends are welcome to attend.

IRISH BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE: The GAA Hall, Carrigaline 5pm – 8.30pm on Tuesday 23rd & Wednesday 24th April. Blood donation is essential to ensure hospital patients get the treatment they need. Anam Cara Cork, the organisation that supports bereaved parents, is holding a Parent Evening on Wednesday 1st May at 7:20pm in the Clayton Hotel, Silver Springs, Tivoli, Cork. This event is free and open to all bereaved parents regardless of the age your child died, the circumstances of their death, or whether their death was recent or not.

 A Rosary of The Grottos for the month of May for all of Ireland. It’s an effort to have a visible prayerful presence at as many Grottos around Ireland every day for the month of May, Our Lady’s month. Basically a person logs on to the website www.coastalrosaryireland.ie and from there registers a Grotto name and Grotto location and the person’s name to sign up to pray the Rosary there each day at a given time, either individually or preferably as a group. The recommended time is 8pm, but a time that suits is fine too. All registered Grottos will be pinned on the map of Ireland on the website. Please check the website to see the Grottos currently registered on the map.

SUNDAY DEVOTIONS: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Rosary this Easter Sunday, (21st April) at 7pm in the little chapel at the back of the church.
 

OFFERTORY COLLECTION for last weekend (13/14th April) amounted to €1347. 2nd collection for the Diocesan Needs came to €700Good Friday collection is for the maintenance of the Holy Places. Easter Sunday Collection is for The Priests of the Parish (one of two collections in the year for the priests). Next Weekend (27/28th April) 2nd Collection is the monthly Church Refurbishment Fund; thank you for your continued generosity.

CORK ALZHEIMERS CAFÉ: A safe place for people with Alzheimers and other dementias, their carers, family and friends along with social and health professionals to meet. Last Friday of each month 1.30–3.30pm in St Finbarrs Hospital, Douglas Road. Light refreshments provided free of charge; all welcome. Friday 26th April is the next meeting.

LOURDES 2019: YOUNG ADULT HELPERS: The Diocese of Cork and Ross invites young adults 18-25yrs to join the pilgrimage to Lourdes as helpers from 10th to 15th June. As helpers you will assist with the sick and be involved in the full pilgrimage programme – time for prayer, sharing in the story of Lourdes and making new friends. DOUGLAS AND DISTRICT CARDIAC SUPPORT GROUP meet on the 1st Thursday each month, from September to June. Venue: Lion House, Douglas Time: 11am – 1pm. The Irish Cancer Society operates a free Volunteer Driver Service that is available to patients attending the following hospitals for chemotherapy treatments; Cork University Hospital, The Mercy University Hospital & South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital. Volunteer drivers will pick a patient up at the door of their home, drop them at the hospital door and then when finished treatment, pick them up and drop them home again. All volunteer expenses are paid. Free DIY Service for Older People: Age Action’s Care & Repair programme is providing DIY work free of charge for older people in Cork. The service has been in operation since 2009 and is expanding year on year as demand grows. To inquire about the Care & Repair service or to request a job, simply call Age Action at their new office on the Model Farm Rd. MASS CARDS: A new selection of Mass cards and other cards are now available in the Parish office. Cost €2 and €3. A new collection of Baptismal candles are also available.
